Thursday Style Section: Mata Traders
Brand Name: Mata Traders Website: matatraders.com Instagram: @matatraders
For our Fashion Revolution Week edition of Thursday Style we are focusing on Mata Traders. This Chicago-based company specializes in unique, classic fair trade apparel and accessories using traditional handmade techniques as well as organic and upcycled materials.
Mata Traders isn’t just about a flattering fit. They celebrate the talents and culture of the individuals who create their products. By supporting the groups of traditional fabric producers and jewelry makers who remain active today, they're helping to keep the art of handmade alive. Artisans utilizing techniques like hand embroidery, block printing, jewelry making, and screen printing have made Mata Traders the spunky, stylish brand it has become.
The 2020 Spring/Summer Collection launched on March 15th.
Now for the most important question... WHO DO YOU HANG WITH?
Mata Traders aligns with companies such as ModCloth, People Tree, Amour Vert, and Anthropologie. Their values and focus on craftsmanship is paramount.
When you purchase items from their collection you're not only supporting a local small business, but also supporting their "mission to ‘fashion a better world’ by creating designs that celebrate a woman’s originality and empower her to use her dollar for change... bringing fair wages to artisans in India and Nepal."
We curated a Spring/Summer capsule collection using a mix of items available from Mata Traders, ModCloth, People Tree, Amour Vert, and Anthropologie. Each piece is linked below.
